ULTRASOUND & ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY

Imaging that supports
your clinical decisions.

Diagnostic imaging for dogs, cats, and small mammals referred by veterinary hospitals, with the examination guided by each patient’s clinical needs.

ABDOMINAL IMAGING

Veterinary Ultrasound

Ultrasound uses sound waves to create real-time images of internal organs and soft tissues, without ionizing radiation. Abdominal examinations can assess structures such as the liver, gallbladder, spleen, kidneys, bladder, and digestive tract.

It can help investigate abnormal bloodwork, digestive or urinary signs, organ changes, masses, or fluid. Findings are considered alongside the examination, history, and other tests; additional testing may be needed.

CARDIAC IMAGING

Echocardiography

An echocardiogram is an ultrasound examination of the heart. It evaluates the heart’s chambers, valves, motion, and pumping function; Doppler ultrasound can assess blood flow.

It can help investigate heart murmurs or suspected heart disease and monitor known cardiac conditions. An echocardiogram and an ECG provide different information, and other tests may also be needed.

The scan area may need clipping, and some patients need sedation to remain comfortable and still. Fasting, water access, medication, positioning, and sedation instructions depend on the patient, species, and examination. Confirm the plan with VEDI and the referring veterinarian before changing the patient’s routine.

Include recent labwork, patient records, current medications, and your diagnostic questions with the referral. Contact VEDI to confirm species suitability, scan scope, availability, and scheduling. For time-sensitive cases, text directly; the form is not monitored continuously.

BEFORE YOU REFER

The details that
make a difference.

What should our team include?

Patient identification, species, age, weight, clinical history, medications, relevant test results, and specific diagnostic questions. Include a direct number for the referring veterinarian.

Does submitting the form book a visit?

No. Please text VEDI directly at (757) 647-7744. Submitting information does not reserve a time or confirm availability.

What if the request is urgent?

Text directly rather than waiting for a form response. The online form is not monitored continuously.

How do we send supporting records?

Use the separate labwork and patient-record attachment sections on the referral page. Enter each document’s date so the most recent records appear first. Prefer paper? Print a blank referral form and have it ready with the supporting records for the scheduled visit.
